Steve excels in the area of health promotion and disease prevention, throughout his career both academically and vocationally he has proved to be highly competent, research based, and professional in his work. As an adjunct instructor he has been extremely effective in working with students, providing high quality instruction, getting students to think, question, and debate health issues, and taking a special interest in their individual development and career goals. Steve would be an asset and support for any individual or organization that seeks to improve their health and the health of their workforce.
Steve was a positive part of the Red Clay Leadership Summit. Steve positively impacted leadership students as a breakout facilitator and leadership summit panelist. Steve’s Live & Lead presentation helped students consider how they can change their world by getting clear on their personal leadership desires, collaborative partners, core values and simple action steps. I recommend Steve for both healthy living and leadership speaking engagements because of his passion, his expertise and his dedication to service to make a difference in people’s lives.
Steve did a wonderful job of connecting with school parents and helping them understand healthy living and providing health behavior strategies to maximize their own families health. Steve is an awesome professional speaker who I would recommend to any school or organization. He focuses his efforts around understanding your needs and serving your audience. Thank you Steve for all your work in the health field!
Steve Bowman and the Live & Lead online school is changing the mission of healthcare through education and empowerment of people regarding their health. Steve has always been someone who has believed in human potential and his commitment to helping people make behavioral changes to improve their health and wellness is now available to everyone and anyone.
Steve Bowman is passionate about helping people understand the critical role their lifestyle choices have in affecting their health and happiness and providing them with evidence-based information. Steve leads by example and inspires those he teaches to share what they learn with others, thus creating a ripple effect of transformation in homes, workplaces, schools and communities.
As a physician I know that much of what I say to patients about lifestyle modification can be challenging for a doctor to convey and for a patient to absorb in the limited time we have together in the exam room. The Live and Lead online school created by Steve Bowman can be a useful and comprehensive reference for patients to utilize at home.
When Steve proposed a plant-based lifestyle, I thought he was out of his mind. However, I took a leap of faith. Through his guidance and support I was able to find small ways to incorporate plant-based meals into my daily routine. Today, I am full plant-based and could not imagine going back to meat and dairy. Plant-based living is not merely a diet, but a mindset reflective of eating healthfully and sustainably.
I know Steve from assisting him with a health and wellness class he was teaching at UD. It ended up changing my life. Many of the keys Steve shares are what your deeper self already senses are true, and Steve reminds you - in his loving and reasonable way - to be good to yourself and act on your intuition. One of my biggest benefits was around sleep. Before meeting Steve, I often woke in the middle of the night and inadvertently my mind would race to the issues of the day, and I would often find myself dragging through the daylight hours groggy and at 50-60% of my usual self. With Steve's help, I changed my view of stressors, accepted my boundaries as a regular human who functions best on 7-8 hours of sleep a night, and stopped beating myself up mentally for issues that were out of my control, which often contributed to my insomnia. He shared other tips as well that led to the solution. I also gained a valuable brother through the process. Steve is a wonderful and beautiful person. He will consistently push you toward your best self (and therefore your best treatment of others) in addition to a richer experience of life. I will always be grateful for the time when we were able to interact regularly through our vocation, though we do stay in touch to this day. Thank you, Steve!
My family and I met Steve two years ago at the March for Life. Having a background in Nutrition Educations I thought I knew a lot about healthful eating and our family, for the most part, was already following the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. During my first conversation with Steve, he introduced me to a Whole Foods Plant Based (WFPB) way of eating and evidenced based nutrition. Steve challenged our family to try a WFPB way of eating for 21 days. He also invited us to attend his nutrition talks at our church where he informed us of evidenced based nutrition and all the benefits of a WFPB diet. The benefits that our family noticed in the 21 days were decreased weight and increased energy. As we continued with it, I lowered my blood pressure into the normal range and my daughters noticed their skin clearing up. My youngest daughter had chronic congestions that would lead to croup and her having to use an inhaler several times a year. After four months of a WFPB diet I noticed her congestion decreasing and she has not had croup since we started eating this way two years ago! I would recommend a WFPB way of eating to anyone who wants to improve their health and feel better. My family and I are grateful to Steve for introducing us to this way of life!
Cathy & Charles
Two years ago, we attended a class that Steve held to introduce interested people to a new way of eating which is plant-based. We have always been interested in healthy eating and wanted to see what this was about. So, for two years now, we are a plant-based couple. We are 84 and 76 years old and have no problems with our health. By eliminating meat, dairy, eggs and most oils, our blood test numbers have improved. Our blood sugar and cholesterol are all normal now. Charles' blood pressure has improved also. We do not feel as if we are being restricted by eating this way. In fact, we are always trying new recipes. It is amazing what is out there in the plant-based world for you to try.
Hello everyone, my name is Adaeze, and I met Mr. Bowman at the University of Delaware. He was my professor for the personal health management course. I am grateful for him, the knowledge he was able to provide, as well as the guidance throughout the course activities and everything we took during the course. During my time, when we started the behavioral change project, I remember just having that guide and support from him. When I told him about all my personal goals and all that I wish to be at the end of the course, he said to me, “You’ve got this, I believe in you.” and having that type of drive and motivation to take on any challenge that we were given was really something that impacted me and something I use in my daily endeavors today. There is different misleading information that we have all received regarding what healthy living truly is. When I took the course, Mr. Bowman was able to open my eyes to a broad and in-depth perspective of what healthy living is, understanding that healthy living is an ever-changing process that should impact all aspects of our lives and those around us. I was excited when I took the course because he is such a great person and he made the course so much fun, interactive, interesting, and informative. All the information he was able to instill in us I was able to translate that into how I live my life today. His goal was to impact every student and relate to them on a personal level, which as a result has really impacted the way I think of myself and has really helped me to also become a better version of myself, and for that I am forever and profoundly grateful for Mr. Bowman. To anyone who is about to start their journey, I just want to tell you to believe in yourself and believe in your teacher as well because you have got the best one. Best of luck in all your endeavors and thank you.
Hi everyone, this is Scott here. I just wanted to give everyone an update on how I am doing since I went plant based. My cholesterol has dropped down to 125 from 300 or higher, my blood pressure is lower than it ever has been. It is 120 over 60-70, and I do not take any medicine for it anymore. My sugar is low now, and I was prediabetic and now I am not prediabetic. All you must do is hang in there and I will tell you if you eat plant-based, you are going to do very well. You are going to lose weight, and all your medicines will be gone. You do not need them anymore. Thanks, and that is an update from Scott.
Bill & Stephanie
Bill - We met Steve when he offered a seminar titled “Reversing Diabetes”. I have been a diabetic for over 10 years, and I have controlled it with oral medication. I have also been a prostate cancer survivor of 15 years and have had high cholesterol for longer than that. So, we go to the seminar and we found that it was informative, we learned a lot and received a lot of resources and mostly encouragement from Steve that it is something that we could do. Another thing is that there were people there who had been on a plant-based diet journey for a little while and they were sharing their successes and so we are here right now sharing our success with you. My cholesterol significantly decreased, and my medication was cut in half. My blood sugar levels decreased and my A1C which had been climbing reversed slightly and I am confident that it will continue to decrease. Stephanie - And so we did it mostly for Bill because he has serious health issues we were hoping to correct, but I had my own success that was a surprise. More recently I had gained weight and I just chalked it up to being postmenopausal and it’s something that I had to live with but just by starting to eat this new way, the pounds just melted off without even being hungry so that was great I think I lost about 20 pounds, and then I was also dealing with a lot of gastrointestinal and acid reflux issues and again eating this new way, it just cleared up it was gone. Steve helped us to understand diabetes and how the change to plant-based eating could reverse it. He also helped to take the complex medical explanation and put it into understandable terms. He also cleared up some misinformation about how a diabetic should eat. Bill - When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was told to watch my carb intake which was the wrong approach. Stephanie - Steve was a good educator and I would call him an active encourager who passionately lives everything that he teaches, and he is invested in everyone that he mentors. The change that we have made to live a healthier lifestyle has given us the confidence that we are headed towards a great retirement soon and with the energy to enjoy it. And for me personally I have found the challenge of eating differently and shopping differently and looking for new recipes and trying out new foods has been fun and rewarding, and we hope you give this a try.
I met Steve when I was in graduate school and we continued to talk monthly just about when I went into my first job and he was starting to share with me some information around how he and his family had gone plant-based and what great outcomes they were having from it and he shared that with me for about a year trying to encourage me to switch to plant-based and I was somewhat resistant. I felt like it would probably be difficult, I already had all my recipes that I used, and I did not want to be inconvenienced to try something new so really it took probably about a year or so to get me to do the switch and what really fueled that was my mom’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2020. So, once she was diagnosed, Steve sent us some research around how a plant-based diet specifically can really help the outcomes of women going through breast cancer. So, we as a family decided to make the switch together to a plant-based diet and we saw some really great results including all of us losing about 8-10 pounds each just from eating plant-based and those were pounds that needed to be lost it was extra weight we were holding on to, so we were all in a healthier weight range. My dad’s blood pressure also came down into a healthier range as well which is something he struggled with for a while and we all had increased energy, we felt great we continue to feel great as we continue to eat plant-based, and my mom’s scan results have also been really great for about the last year too, and that is along with conventional medicine but I have no doubt that plant-based diet is helping us in that realm as well. So, if you are looking to make the switch, if you are thinking about it and you are just not quite sure I encourage you to make some small changes and just see what happens. Start eating just a few meals plant-based each week and reach out to Steve. He has some great resources available; he has a wealth of knowledge in this area, a great support so definitely reaches out and look around his website, all the great resources they must get you started. Best of luck on your journey and I know if you make the change, you will be so happy.
I met Steve at the University of Delaware. He was my professor for the personal health management class. Taking this class has been the best decision I made in a while. This class was interesting and informative, he not only taught me what I never knew before, but he also corrected some misleading ways of what healthy really means that we all believed from what we heard in school, at home, and the recommendations given to us. Steve helped me learn what a healthy lifestyle really is by informing me about how plant-based diets will be beneficial to us as well as the harm if we continue to consume meat and dairy products. I know not everyone is comfortable going fully plant-based so eating mostly plants will also lower risk compared to the ones who eat mostly fast food and meat. My story is about weight management, this has always been my top priority in making a change. I have already had a weight loss plan and learning what is good for me has enhanced the progress and made the process much easier. I have lost about 30 pounds so far and this not only made me happier but made me more confident because I have always been teased about being overweight. This not only tackles weight but this will also help any other health issues. I want everyone to take my words and start as soon as possible. Come to Steve and learn more about what can be done, you will never regret it. This plan will only make you better, never worse, do not wait and start today.
I have met Steve through the University of Delaware, he was my professor for Personal Health Management, and taking his course I am so grateful for the knowledge that he was able to provide us. I suffer from 2 chronic illnesses that I was for so many years crying for answers for help. None of my physicians have told me about what he has taught me, and that is the power of behavior change and so with that I decided to go on a plant-based diet, and I was able to exercise more and eat healthier, cut out all the sugars, the nasty starches and I immediately saw the difference. By my second week of being through this journey I was no longer in pain. I had absolutely no pain for so many years that I have suffered every single day with pain, the fact that I got to that point, I was just in shock and that was with no medications. That is something that I will forever take with me. I know now that is something that will help me in my pain, and this is exactly what I needed, and going into law enforcement I need to have this knowledge and I am able to now get myself where I need to be to be as successful as possible and as well as live and lead with this information. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity of being in his class and learning from him and his passion for living a healthier life and that I will forever be grateful.
Steve has helped me to be plant-based for 3 ½ years now. I think overall it has made me healthier and more energetic, and it has helped lower my blood pressure to where I do not take blood pressure medicine anymore. Also, my joints and back pain has lessened, and I do not take any medication for my back pain now. My digestive system has greatly improved from not eating meat and dairy products, which is a blessing. Overall, Steve has been supportive and caring in this journey to help me be healthier and live a better life through plant-based diet and exercise and getting enough sleep, and all just general good health.
Hi, my name is Makenzie and I met Steve in the fall of my sophomore year of college. I took a class with him called personal health management and I ended up being a teacher’s assistant for the class spring of my sophomore year and fall of my senior year. I really loved the class and really enjoyed Steve and what he had to teach. What really improved my journey, and a lot of other people's journey was that Steve took a college class that you can take as an elective to fill a requirement and he gave it a purpose in supporting students through their personal journeys and changes in lifestyle and health management. I think it is a valuable thing in college to have a professor who really, really cares about you and your growth. A specific story about my health journey and Steve was I walked into class one day, after chugging a large Starbucks coffee and I felt so sick. I went up to Steve and said hey I cannot stay for class today, I will make up work, I am sorry I just feel so ill. That was the day that he handed out an eight-week behavioral health change contract. Which was an assignment we did in the class where you implemented a new habit that improved your health. I ended up giving up caffeine for eight weeks and three years later here I am, and I still have not had caffeine since. I have benefitted from it greatly. I am not fatigued anymore, and I feel awake all day. I work from seven to five every day and I am not craving coffee in the morning or in the afternoon. I feel like I have more energy overall, which I think is a big ode to Steve, saying he supported me through that, and I came out better on the other side. I think that anyone who is going through this journey alone or with Steve or anyone else, should really trust him and the wisdom he has. By being a student and a teacher’s assistant, I personally have seen how his teachings have changed people’s lives. I know students who have taken the information to families and to friends. I think it is valuable information that you can really grow from. Some days might be hard, but it gets easier. I think the first three days were difficult, but now three years later out of an eight-week assignment here I am and feeling better every day. Best of luck!”
